ABOUT THE ARTIST

Who I Am

My Days in Clay

HOW I WORK

It’s not fun if you didn’t get dirty!

I have been working with clay for 20 years and try to get dirty every day. I found clay, or it found me, in 2001 after losing my father. I went back to school to study art because, with a degree in Theatre, I found myself teaching elementary art. Once my hands got dirty in that first ceramics class, I never looked back.

I love exploring the history of clay in its sculptural and functional forms. I enjoy how even in its utilitarian state, it invites exploration of its colored glazes, its shapes, and its textures. I appreciate how it challenges me to repeat forms and invent forms, find new glaze recipes, and solve – or embrace – glaze flaws.

I hope that my work becomes part of the everyday and of the special occasions. I hope that each user notices the shapes, the colors and the textures and they find beauty and joy in its use. And if the piece gets a little dirty when it’s being used, I hope they find it worthwhile to explore the piece even when washing up.
